Do you ever feel like you’re somehow taking the right step? You’re not sure why, because this step doesn’t really seem to directly relate to your life plan, but for some reason, it just feels right?
If you’ve been reading some of my posts lately, you may have been really confused by my vague rambling about a crazy, life-changing decision. Well, things are now set in stone and 100% official, so here it goes.
I’m moving to Italy.
Florence, to be exact. It still seems completely surreal – there was only about a two week gap between deciding I wanted to go somewhere and booking flights, so it hasn’t quite hit me yet. At the same time, I am ridiculously excited, because I absolutely adore Italy – the culture, the history, the architecture, the art, the food.
Moving to Italy feels right – the last time I visited, I could really imagine myself living there – something about Tuscany just called to me. And now, six months later, I’m actually doing it. It honestly feels like a dream.
This week has seen me scrambling to start getting everything together – I leave Perth on February 16th, which means I don’t really have a lot of time! I’ve booked flights and organised my visa, so now it’s time to start packing up my life and preparing to move to the other side of the world. I’m actually going to be an au pair in a family with two girls, aged 13 and 17 – although I’m a little scared to become part of a new family, I can’t wait to explore Florence, Italy and the rest of Europe, and to take you on my adventures through this little space on the internet that I call my own. I guess this week I’ve been thinking a lot about chasing what you want, and not letting anything hold you back – because that’s what I’m doing. You might be scared, and people might think you’re crazy, but if it’s what makes you happy, you should follow it – you never know what might happen.
