I’m not sure what it is about fairy tales that calls to me – perhaps it’s the sense of magic, that anything is possible. Or perhaps I just like princesses in pretty dresses.
Whatever it is, fairy tales have always been an integral part of my life. From bedtime stories to Disney movies, I’ve always been immersed in a world of magic, which I guess has led to me being who I am today. And call me crazy, but I still believe in magic. Maybe not the kind of magic you see in fairy tales (I’m still waiting for cute forest animals to help me with my chores), but I think there is definitely magic out there. There are some things that just can’t be described by anything other than magic. Or maybe the magic is in the believing. I’m yet to find out. All I know is that I do believe in magic and in fairy tales, and I don’t think that will ever change.
That’s where the idea for this series came from – that belief in fairy tales and magic. Because I know I’m different, I know that a lot of people think fairy tales are just for children (even though most fairy tales originated as quite gruesome stories for adults), but I still love that sense of magic, mystery, romance and adventure – the idea that everything is possible and nothing is as it seems. So when I had to create a series on anything I wanted for my final university project, I knew that it was going to be on fairy tales – they influence me in everything I do. And that’s where the idea for this series was born – a young girl, falling into a world of fairy tales and experiencing everything they have to offer – a wicked queen, a handsome prince, animal sidekicks, talking household objects, and just a little bit of magic. I guess this is kind of how I see myself – just a girl still trying to live a fairytale.
This is A Few Times Since Then – I hope you enjoy.
